I have been using Visio 2010 on my main workstation, upon which I’d just installed Office 365. I thought this might be a good time to upgrade to Visio 2013. I bought a copy on Amazon (subscription service doesn’t seem to be available).
The installation has the new-style Microsoft look and feel. It, however, did not go well.
Early on, after asking if if could shut down Outlook and two other Microsoft Office programs (I said fine), I saw this:
Starting again got me this:
That was a little weird, since I’d already told the installation program to go ahead and close outlook. In the task finder, it wasn’t listed as a running app, but I found the process in the process tab, using one core to capacity.
I killed the process and restarted the installer. Back to the original problem:
Then I noticed that all my Office 2013 launch icons were gone from the Taskbar and the Start Menu. A search for Outlook 2013, Word 2013, etc, all turned up empty.
I looked for the actual Office 2013 programs. Most are gone:
It looks like my attempted Visio 2013 installation killed the existing Office 365 installation.
I rebooted and tried again. Nada.
I attempted to reinstall Office 365. The installation program hung silently.
I removed the workstation from the client list on the Office 365 website. I will attempt an Office Professional Plus 2013 installation.
Ugh.

I had the same frustrating experience with installing Office 365. After many reinstallations I managed to install a French version. Not the English one that I actually need. 🙁
Although the concept of 365 is very promising, the experience with the installation is not.
I expect to be able to integrate a Visio drawing into a Word file. Nope. Does not seem to work.
