Soberanes fire MODIS data — part 4

July 26, 2016 Jim Leave a Comment

As of 5:00 this morning, the two southern fires have merged into one, and there is slow eastward progress. There are new hot spots near Rancho San Carlos, but they are still west of the houses. There is a new hot spot in the Carmel Highlands, near Red Wolf Drive.

Dark red spots are less than six hours old. Lighter red less than 12 hours. Orange spots less than 24 hours. Yellow spots show fire activity for the entire calendar year.

By the way, from tracking last fall’s fire with MODIS datasets, I have determined that the accuracy of the positions isn’t perfect. If there’s a square, the actual hot spot could be anywhere in the square, and occasionally just outside it.
