Soberanes Fire MODIS data — 1200 7/28

We’ve got new MODIS data as of noon today, both radiative power and hotspots by age.

The southern part of the fire is growing to the east. All the new hot spots are low intensity, as indicated by the radiative power map:

Don’t worry about that green dot on the lower right of the fire; it’s due to the way the Google Earth maps colors when they’re overlapping.

White Rock is further threatened from the south:

The above angle makes Carmel Valley Village appear a lot closer than it is. It’s over seven miles from the fire that’s south of White Rock.

There are three hot spots near Rancho San Carlos Road that look worrisome, but I suspect that they are back fires started by Cal Fire:

As of 1300, VIIRS had detected a hot spot west of White Rock. I’m hoping that that is also a back burn.
