October Covid-19 report

October 23, 2020 Jim Leave a Comment

I’ve been keeping track of Covid-19 statistics for the US, California and Monterey County since the pandemic started. We’re nearing the end of October, and it’s apparent that cases are rising nationwide. I’d like to post a set of graphs that privide a snapshot of what I’ve been keeping track of.

US cases have been rising since the end of August. California cases have been flat since then. Monterey County cases have decreased.

US deaths have flattened at around 800 people per day. California deaths continue to decrease.
US Case Fatality Rate has been hovering at slightly below 2% for about 8 weeks.

California hospitalizations have been falling since August 1, but seen to have plateaued.

California CFRs are running about the same as the national

The state of California has made great progress in getting the positivity ration down. Monterey County can’t say that. This ratio should be well under 5%.
In the middle of September, it looked like Monterey County was making progress in contact tracing, and was getting the number of contacts traced per case up towards 10, where it should be. Sadly, the metric has fallen off since then.
