This is a continuing report on my out of box experience with a new Dell R640 server. The series starts here. The machine arrived with the iDRAC controller DOA. Dell scheduled a service call to replace the motherboard.
I talked to the Unisys tech this morning. He’s in San Jose. He needed to pick up the motherboard in Soquel before coming down here. I gave him directions. After a few hours, he called from the FedEx office Soquel and said that the motherboard had not arrived and that he’d have to reschedule the service call.
I can’t believe that it’s cheaper for Dell to replace the motherboard in the field than to cross ship me another server, but that’s how it is.
Stay tuned.
