Still more Synology problems

November 29, 2014 Jim Leave a Comment

This last 4TB disk almost finished its rebuild, then the progress indicator went backwards. I waited. It usually takes about 2 days for a rebuild. This time it took closer to three. Then, as before, the NAS box stopped serving files. Rather than restart, I shut it down from the admin interface, waited a few minutes, and pressed the power button. It came up fine this time.

I took the opportunity to upgrade to the latest OS version:

wanst onlatest os

When the system came back up, it invited me to expand teh size of the array, since it was now composed of all 4 TB disks:

can expand

I said yes:

yes expand

ANd confirmed that I really meant it:

confirm

The system started a rebuild:

expanding

After a while I went back to the screen and the rebuild seemed to have stopped:

can expand again

I started the expansion procedure again. Then this happened.

crashed

I looked at the volume. It looks like a hsrdware fsilure, but the timing is suspicions:

partition failed

I started a data scrub:

start scrubbing

Notice that there is a disconnect between the capacity reported on the above screen and the one reported on the volume manager.

It’s scrubbing now:

still scrubbing
