Bringing up the new workstation, part 3

July 1, 2013 Jim Leave a Comment

I started a chat session with NEC support. After I emailed the tech a copy of my invoice, she gave me a serial number for Spectraview II. I installed it. The first calibration seemed to go well, but the color gamut didn’t make any sense:

where is the red

Where’s the red? Either the monitor lost it, the spectrophotometer was broken, or there was some light leakage. I tried again, this time making sure the room was really dark:

2nd NEC calibration

That’s better. Note that the title says the color space is CIE xy, but it’s really CIE u’v’, because I checked the box on the right.

I set up some other profiles, including some 80 candelas/square meter ones to use to for final editing and soft proofing.

When I tried to switch back and forth between profiles, I got an error saying that the app couldn’t access the ICC profile of the monitor. The permissions looked OK, with the system and my account both having full access. I added full access for everyone, just to make sure.
