A love note to a printer

June 26, 2012 Jim Leave a Comment

I usually report here on technology gone wrong. Today, I’d like to change that and write a little love letter to my Epson 9800.

It occurred to me that I hadn’t used the printer for a long time – I’m using my 4900 for most everything these days – so I decided to print something to keep the heads from getting clogged. When I fired the printer up, I noticed that it was configured for roll paper. I thought a minute. The last time I’d used roll paper was to print the posters for last year’s Carmel Bach Festival. I hadn’t printed anything for a whole year!

Nonetheless, I declined the printer’s offer to do a deep cleaning, and printed out a nozzle check sheet. Just two minor clogs. I ran a normal cleaning cycle, and everything was copacetic. Amazing!

I made a couple of prints to cycle some of the ink through the tubes. I’ll try not to go so long without using it next time.
