Before I started working in series with Alone in a Crowd, I did a lot of random street photography, mostly on business trips. I’d find myself in a strange city for the weekend, and take my camera — at various times, a Nikon S2, a Hasselblad 501C , or a Plaubel Makina 6×7 — for a walk. I enjoyed this unplanned searching a lot, but I now realize that my, ahem, unfocused approach didn’t maximize my changes for making good images. Nonetheless, here are a few that don’t make me wince today.
